The Lambda (λ) light chain of immunoglobulins is encoded by the human immunoglobulin lambda locus (IGL) on chromosome 22 and is expressed on the surface of approximately 1/3 of mature B lymphocytes in peripheral blood, the rest express the kappa light chain. This light chain is also found on the surface of a sub-population of immature bone marrow B cells.
